Week 35: Tiny Superheroes

I believe all kids are heroes. They’re told what to do every day with the only options being to comply or be punished. They struggle to learn new things, behave the way the “grownups” expect them to and remember everything they’ve been told, all while understanding little about the very world around them. Some deal with this well, others not as much. There are also “super” kids among these heroes, children who have no choice but to carry the weight of an illness or disability, little ones who are considered different than everyone else but continue to soldier on.

Enter Robyn Rosenberger and her company TinySuperheroes. Robyn made a cape for her nephew one day. She had been following the blog of a little girl named Brenna who was born with a rare and severe skin disorder and realized that Brenna also needed a cape. Robyn had found her calling – to find those tiny superheroes and make them capes. She receives nominations for a TinySuperhero in need of a cape and immediately gets her team on it to produce a one-of-a-kind, unique cape. Kids with Cystic Fibrosis, genetic abnormalities, Cerebral Palsy and various conditions that require intensive therapy now get the chance to harness their inner Superhero.

If getting a cape can make a child feel like they are a tiny superhero, I’ll keep sending them for the rest of my life.

THE SQUARES – WEEK 35

Milestone alert… blanket number seven is complete! Squares one and two are from a pattern called Granny Stitch Spike. Square six is an M for the alphabet blanket. And yes, that IS another knitted square! My mom suggested slipping the first and last stitches to avoid the natural curl. I think it helped but it took me awhile to slip those stitches the right way.
